Deities of Yume

There are six main or ‘Patron’ God/desses of Yume, that revolve around the six central elements seen to make up the world. Each culture and race tells a variant of the same story of how magic was given to them by ‘their’ God/dess. Each God became enamoured of a select few races and created an Avatar of that race with a tiny spark of their divine energy within it, so that they might walk the world and enjoy the company of their people. The Gods chose to take mates from amongst their chosen races, and the descendants of these unions became the first users of magic.

Though technically unisex, the Gods take on the gender that they feel most personifies their divine energy. This can change, but happens quite rarely, something along the lines of once every hundred thousand years. When the Gods create an Avatar, it is created as whatever their whim is at that moment; some Gods might prefer a certain gender for their Avatars, but usually they are rather blasé when it comes to gender. Some of the most notable historical figures with less than straight proclivities have been Avatars.

Each god has chosen one or several races that are their ‘chosen’ and are thus the patron gods of that race; though rare, sometimes the gods rule will overlap though neither will outright claim the race to avoid conflict. Chosen races often align themselves with their gods and build elaborate shrines to them and their demi-gods. Patron gods also gift magical abilities in line with their element (through the afore mentioned avatars.) Thusly, creatures use of magic is limited by race and region; a race that lives in many geographic areas may be ‘chosen’ by a God on one continent but not another.

Therefore, it is possible that a race of creatures on Damasu could have air-aligned powers, but the same race on Chigau could have fire aligned powers. Before the War of the Roses, races and magic where strictly separated. In the aftermath, however, many tribes joined together and now new and dual-aligned types of magic are evolving.

Lehanna

Goddess of green and growing things, Lehanna has power of the element of Earth. This encompasses all growing things as well as metals and crystals. Seeing herself as the mother of Life, Lehanna none the less has a very much ‘hands off’ approach, preferring to let the beings of Yume work out their own destinies. A creature of the wild, she is in tune with the landscape and was the originator of the elemental golems. She has something off a love/hate relationship with Jakor, the God Of Air, who enjoys nothing more than tweaking her nose and sending her into a seething tantrum. Down to earth and ruthlessly practical, Lehanna is rather laid back until her temper is riled- but once angered, she is slow to forget and has been known to nurse grudges for several thousand years.

Demi-gods under Lehanna’s include; Joicet, the Goddess of Fertility; Amset, Queen of cats; Kyara, Goddess of the Hunt; and Dulye, God of Plagues.

Jakor

God of thought, wisdom and travel, Jakor represents the forces of Air. He also holds dominion over the weather, though it has been argued that it is not wholly his as it is a combination of several elemental forces. As wild and mischievous as his element, Jakor is as famous for his wisdom as his pranks. Although relatively carefree on the surface, Jakor puts great thought into his ‘pranks’, and his schemes have a shelf life of several thousand years. Always plotting and scheming, for the moment his motives are relatively unknown aside from irritating his fellow Divine rulers.

Demigods under Jakor’s rule include; Kaleb, God of the Book/Written Word; Iroh, God of Secrets, Jareth, God of Tricksters; and Ilyah, Goddess of Scorned Lovers.

Lairth

God of creativity and passion, Lairth holds sway over fire of all kinds, both physical and metaphysical. Spontaneous and curious, he is prone to sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong. Lairth sees himself as something of a free spirit, roaming where he wishes and bestowing inspiration upon those who have earned his favour. Beneath his whimsical exterior, however, lurks a hard and ruthless core. When provoked, Lairth’s temper is as deadly as a wildfire that sweeps across the landscape consuming all in its path. He always has an Avatar and is endlessly fascinated by mortal beings. Lairth has a particular weakness for the sinuous rhythms of dance and music in its many forms.

Demigods under Lairth’s rule include; Pyet, God of Blacksmiths; Kyon, God of Lightning; Barui, God of the Arts ; and Syana, Goddess of the Hearth

Seifer

God of cleansing and rebirth, Sefier is the deity of Water. Much of his power is tied to emotions and tidal fluctuations, making him somewhat of a mysterious, prickly tempered personality. Holding sway over water in all its forms, he works closely with Jakor in manipulating the weather of Yume. Somewhat standoffish, he resents Lairth’s carefree attitude and will often provoke pitched battles simply to get a rise out of the other god. Although life technically began in the oceans of Yume, Seifer has little but contempt for land creatures, though there are some creatures and races that have earnt his grudging respect. He tends to hide most of his emotions behind a cold mask in an attempt to hold back his irritable temper.

Demigods under Seifer’s rule include; Leigh, God of Transformation; Hiruin, God of Fish; Soren, God of Seaside Hunts; Usako, Goddess of Ice.

Yuna
Goddess of Spirit, Yuna holds sway over light and life. Her realm lies in the metaphysical, and many of her chosen manifest what we would deem paranormal abilities. Soft and dreamy for much of the time, Yuna conceals a stern heart of steel. When the time comes, it is Spirit that helps heal the world and shine down the light of Judgement in conjunction with Shadow. Yuna is concerned with the spiritual well being of all creatures, and usually chooses to appear to ascetics and priests, those who remove themselves from the toils and concerns of everyday life. Though seen as somewhat aloof, she has a very dry sense of humour and finds her amusement in the most absurd, everyday events. Yuna also deals with souls moving back into the natural order (reincarnation)
Demigods under Yuna’s rule include; Tiruk, Goddess of Enlightenment; Wataru, Goddess of Purity; Rei, Goddess of Hope; and Mamoru, God of Judgement

Rikku
Goddess of Shadow, Rikku holds sways over darkness and death. Far from evil, she is instead the end of a very natural and harmonious process. Cool and reserved, Rikku prefers to watch from afar and seldom troubles herself with the affairs of living mortals. As the Goddess of the Underworld, she deals with the newly dead and helps them resolve the issues of their last mortal incarnation. Once sufficiently prepared, she sends the soul back to her sister Yuna, so that it might be reincarnated. She is in many ways the Yin to Yuna’s Yang, and between the two sisters they aim to reflect balance and peace. That is not to say that Rikku is entirely peaceful; if times are slow she will often stir up mischief with Jakor, though she more often has dealings with demi-gods rather than the other Divine Rulers. Rikku prefers to keep to herself, but is a closet romantic, with her Avatar often playing the part of a damsel in distress.
Demigods under Yuna’s rule include; Janu, Goddess of Pathways and Junctions; Aiko, Goddess of Vengeance; Mina, Goddess of Compassion/Acceptance; and Mamoru, God of Judgement.
